Brooksville requests longer yellow lights

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - Following a 10 News Investigation into the length of yellow lights at local red-light camera (RLC) intersections, the City of Brooksville is asking the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for permission to extend its intervals.

Man shot during disagreement at Weeki Wachee home

Weeki Wachee, Florida-- Hernando County Sheriff's deputies and Major Case detectives are currently investigating a shooting incident that took place Thursday night. 

According to reports, two men were fighting at a home on the 8700 block of Ostrom Way, when one shot the other. 

The victim was transported to a local hospital. Reports say he is suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Officials have not said if any arrests have been made, but they did say there is no suspect at large, and no threat to the surrounding community.

Man arrested after teacher spots abuse in student

Brooksville, Florida- An observant teacher and a guidance counselor from Brooksville Elementary School are seen as heroes Thursday night after they spotted signs of possible abuse in one of their young students, and took action.

According to the arrest affidavit, the teacher noticed a bruise on a six-year-old student's right hip Wednesday morning, and once she notified the guidance counselor, the six-year-old was questioned, and he shared his story. 

"This is an awesome school," said Cindy Loeffelholz, whose grandchildren attend Brooksville Elementary.

AAA offers "Tow To Go" service Memorial Day weekend

Tampa Bay, Florida-- It's hard to imagine why one would risk getting behind the wheel while intoxicated, but AAA's "To to Go" program makes it that much harder. 

According to AAA's website, "To to Go" offers intoxicated drivers a free, confidential ride to a safe place within a 10 mile radius, along with a free tow for their car. 

UPDATE: Missing Brooksville man has been found

Brooksville, Florida -- The Hernando County Sheriff's Office have found Joseph Telmosse. 

He was located safely in Levy County. 

Man arrested for beating boy, pouring soap in his eyes

Brooksville, Florida -- A man has been arrested for beating a child with a belt and pouring soap in his eyes. 

On Wednesday, May 22, a deputy with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office was called to Brooksville Elementary School at the request of the guidance counselor. Reportedly, she had a student who came to school with a large bruise on his hip and when she asked the child about his injuries he said a man, later identified as Daniel Smith, beat him. 

Man dies after overnight Spring Hill shooting

Spring Hill, FL - A man has died as a result of a shooting in the 6000 block of Pinehurst Drive in Spring Hill.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says there was a fight involving Michael Challis and two other men. Shots were fired and Challis died as a result of his injuries. 

Deputies are continuing to interview everyone who was on the scene.

At this time, no arrests have been made.
