Man arrested for beating boy, pouring soap in his eyes

Brooksville, Florida -- A man has been arrested for beating a child with a belt and pouring soap in his eyes. 

On Wednesday, May 22, a deputy with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office was called to Brooksville Elementary School at the request of the guidance counselor. Reportedly, she had a student who came to school with a large bruise on his hip and when she asked the child about his injuries he said a man, later identified as Daniel Smith, beat him.

Man dies after overnight Spring Hill shooting

Spring Hill, FL - A man has died as a result of a shooting in the 6000 block of Pinehurst Drive in Spring Hill.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says there was a fight involving Michael Challis and two other men. Shots were fired and Challis died as a result of his injuries. 

Deputies are continuing to interview everyone who was on the scene.

At this time, no arrests have been made.

Pasco woman charged with 53 counts of animal cruelty

Brooksville, Florida- A Pasco County woman, who Hernando Sheriff's deputies say abandoned 53 animals inside a U-Haul, is arrested and charged with 53 counts animal abuse.

Hernando Sheriff's deputies found the truck parked in a Publix parking lot in Spring Hill shortly after, deputies said, Francis Terry Evans dropped it off.

Hernando County, Florida -- Nearly 40 cats had to be euthanized Tuesday after they were found, along with other animals, in a U-Haul truck abandoned in the parking lot of a Spring Hill Publix.

Hernando Sheriff's deputies were called out to investigate and when they arrived, along with Pasco County Code Enforcement officials and Animal Services officers, they reported they could hear the animals "screaming" inside.
