Police: Woman scams thousands from elderly victim

Spring Hill, Florida -- A Spring Hill woman was arrested Monday after detectives say she scammed thousands of dollars from a 91-year-old woman in a month and a half.

Police say in January 2011, 36-year-old Angel Edmonds convinced Florence Butler to assign her Power of Attorney, even though Butler's step-daughter had been her Power of Attorney since 2008.

Edmonds then gained access to Butler's bank account and safe deposit box, where she took an unknown amount of stocks and bonds.

Between June 7 and July 26, police say Edmonds took more than $57,000 from Butler's bank account, which she used to pay for concert tickets, a Sirius satellite radio, iTunes, movie rentals, items from The Disney Store and Toys 'R' Us, among other things.

Florida black bass grand slam fever 'contagious'

Florida black bass grand slam fever 'contagious'

Brooksville, FL -- Jim Walker of Brooksville took less than six months to complete the Florida black bass grand slam, and went one better.

Although spring and summer are baseball season for many Americans to whom a grand slam is that glorious occasion of hitting a home run with the bases loaded, many will marvel more at Walker’s stunning and fun accomplishment.

Even though baseball is touted as our national pastime, anglers outnumber baseball players many times over. (Seventeen percent of Americans age 6 or older fish, and 5 percent play baseball, according to the Outdoor Recreation Foundation 2010 Participation Report.)

“I was inspired by an article in ‘Bassmaster’ magazine and made it my 2011 New Year’s resolution to catch all the Florida black bass species this year,” Walker said in an FWC release.
