Inmate punches deputy over cup of coffee

Brooksville, Florida - An inmate at the Hernando County Detention Center didn't want water.  He wanted coffee.

That's what he told investigators after he allegedly punched a deputy at the jail on July 17.

Daniel Anthony Cepeda, 31, first asked the defendant if he could have something other than water to drink.

As the deputy opened Cepeda's cell door, Cepeda punched him on the left side of his face, according to the arrest affidavit.

"The defendant stated that he didn't want water to drink; he wanted a cup of coffee.  He admitted to punching [the deputy] in the face," according to the arrest affidavit.

Cepeda is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer.

According to the Hernando County Jail website, Cepeda has been locked up since July 15 on charges of battery and aggravated battery.
