'No free refills' sparks McDonalds fight

'No free refills' sparks McDonalds fight

Spring Hill, Florida -- In this economy, it seems everyone wants something for free.

But one man apparently took that too far, when deputies say he became irate after he was told he couldn't use an old cup for a free refill at a Spring Hill McDonalds.

Deputies say Michael Quinn, 24, and his girlfriend brought two "old or used" McDonalds drink cups into the restaurant on June 3.

When he was told he was not allowed a refill and that refills are only for dine-in customers, he "became very belligerent and began to curse at [the woman]," according to the arrest report.

Quinn walked out of store but later came back to the window and showed a five-inch long knife, deputies say.

3rd inmate says doctor sexually molested her

BROOKSVILLE, Florida (AP) -- Another female jail inmate has filed suit against a Gainesville psychiatrist, alleging sexual molestation.

On Tuesday, a woman identified as "Jane Doe III" added her name to a lawsuit filed in Hernando in May.

The women allege that James Yelton Rossello sexually fondled and molested them while they were inmates in the Hernando County Jail.

In March, the Florida Surgeon General restricted Rossello from providing medical, mental health or psychiatric treatment to any female patients.

The Corrections Corporation of America is also named in the suit. It was contracted to run the jail for 22 years until the county took back control of it in August.

An attorney who represented Rossello in the Department of Health Case has said his client denies the conduct. No criminal charges have been filed.

Fighting The Drought, One Drop At A Time

Fighting The Drought, One Drop At A Time

Drought is slowly closing in on Hernando County, and while we can't reverse it right away, there are things we can do to slow it's advance.

If you look at the image above, you'll see that as of May 31, only 9.79% of the state is drought free. Unfortunately, the heat is only going to intensify as we head into summer, causing the drought to get worse. The lack of significant rain is slowly catching up to us.

To date, my weather station just north of  Brooksville has seen 13.94 inches of rain this year.

With several scorching months still ahead of us, we need to save as much water as possible, and not waste it needlessly.  Hernando County is now at two-day-per-week watering restrictions.   People with even numbered addresses can water on Thursday and/or Sunday, and people with odd numbered addresses can water on Wednesday and/or Saturday.

Police: Mom left in hot car while son buys drugs

Brooksville, Florida - Brooksville Police have arrested a man they say left his elderly mother in an unventilated, hot car while he tried to buy drugs.

Detectives say Kenneth Lawson, 65, had his 87-year-old mother in his Chevy Impala Saturday afternoon when he made a stop to buy crack.

Brooksville Police spotted the car parked behind a gas station on Ponce De Leon Boulevard with the engine off and the windows rolled up with the elderly woman inside.

Lawson faces a charge of Neglect of an Elderly or Disabled Person and is being held in the Hernando County Jail.

Lawson's mother is in good condition after the ordeal.
