Hernando golf course gathering national attention

Brooksville, Florida - Tucked away in rural Hernando County, World Woods seems a world away from civilization, yet this golf course consistently draws national attention. Once gain, it's on Golf Digest's list of 100 greatest public golf courses.

World Woods pro Rick Kelso says it's an honor to make such lists and that it does help draw visitors. "The people we bring up here, they're die-hard golfers; they want to come and play the best of the best."

World Woods has two Tom Fazio-designed courses, but it's the Pine Barrens that stands out. It's unusual for Florida; instead of a lot of water, there's rolling terrain and 44 acres of waste area.

"It's just a very natural looking course," says golfer Tim Wilson of Apopka. "With the rock quarries, it doesn't really look like you're in Florida."
