Robots used in surgery at Brooksville Regional

Brooksville, FL -- A doctor at Brooksville Regional Hospital recently completed the hospital's first urological procedure using the da Vinci surgical technology.

Dr. Omar Hamoui used the technique during a nephrectomy, which is the surgical removal of a kidney or section of a kidney.

The da Vinci surgical system is a robotic surgery system that allows surgeons to make smaller incisions during intricate surgeries.  Surgeons are able to see the surgery site in 3-D and high definition, with up to ten times magnification.

Brooksville, FL (AP) -- An inmate at the Hernando County Jail died at a hospital, five days after authorities said he hanged himself with a bed sheet in his cell.

Charles Michael Dehart was declared dead on Monday. Jail officials said the 46-year-old inmate hanged himself with a bed sheet in his cell. He was taken to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition until Monday.

New Port Richey, FL -- A Spring Hill man died and his passenger is in critical condition after his motorcycle was hit by an SUV late Sunday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 11:28 p.m., 38-year-old Gregory Merrill was riding north on Little Road in New Port Richey on a Honda motorcycle with 22-year-old Amanda Clark, of Spring Hill, when witnesses say he ran the red light at River Crossing Boulevard.

Passport fair May 14 in Hernando

Spring Hill, Florida - The Hernando County Clerk of Circuit Court is hosting a Passport Fair in Spring Hill, Florida on Saturday, May 14, 2011, from 9:30 am until 1:00 pm, to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications.

Effective June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry.

Experience the 'Mount Everest of cave diving'

Hernando County, Florida - It's often called the Mount Everest of cave diving and it attracts people from around the world.  

But Eagle's Nest, located in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area, is also one of the most dangerous caves to dive. In fact, since 1981, at least six people have died while diving at Eagle's Nest.
