About Us
Stage West is a 501(c)(3) not-for profit organization. The Stage West Community Playhouse organization began back in 1981 when Hernando County residents who loved theater formed a traveling troupe that began performing plays and one-act shows for any local organization that would allow them to come and perform. The theater that exists today was the dreamchild of those charter members. It was built from the hard work and dedication from those members and those that followed whose vision came to fruition by ticket sales and donations by the residents of Hernando County, Florida. In 1993, the Main Stage auditorium was built. It seats 390 and has state of the art sound and lighting systems. In 1997, the Forum Stage was added. It seats 154 for a more intimate theatrical experience.
Today, Stage West Community Playhouse produces what we feel is the best in live theater in the tri-county area. Stage West offers eight shows during its regular season which runs from September to May and three additional productions during the summer months including one all children's production. AND we are very happy to announce that in the upcoming 2012-2013 season, Stage West will be the new home for the Hernando County Symphony Orchestra. We welcome them to our home.
Open call auditions are announced online and through newspapers and new members are always welcome. If you have ever thought about performing in a play or musical, Stage West can provide that opportunity.
