Hernando Fine Arts Council has new home

Hernando County, Florida -- The Hernando County Fire Arts Council announced Saturday it has leased an office, gallery and meeting space in the Brooksville area.  

Starting June 1, the new spaces include a fully furnished office connecting to a reception area, a large art gallery suitable for exhibits, musical programs and other events, and an adjacent area to be used as the official meeting room for the council’s monthly meetings.

Brooksville, Florida-- The Historic Hernando Preservation Society presents the Secret Garden Home Tour, an event that offers tours of two immaculately decorated homes and their gardens.

Attendees can expect to see a wide-range of beautiful, blooming flowers, and indulge in a French Picnic on the lawn of the museum.

The tour begins at the May-Stringer Museum at 601 Museum Court in Brooksville.

Coalition hosts 3rd Annual Storybook Forest event

Spring Hill, FL -- The Early Learning Coalition of Pasco and Hernando Counties, Inc. is hosting its 3rd Annual Storybook Forest event on Saturday, Feb. 4 to support Children’s Week and Early Childhood Literacy.

Early Childhood Educators in Pasco and Hernando counties will create interactive displays based on children’s novels. Children will learn about the story and create a  related make-and-take project at each display. Past stories include: “Jack and the Beanstalk”; “Cat in the Hat”; and “Where the Wild Things Are”.

Florida State Parks announces 2011 Photo Contest winners

Tallahassee -- Three people have been named winners in the 2011 Florida State Parks Photo Contest.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Florida Park Service made the announcement Friday with the top three selected from 12 monthly photo contest winners throughout the year.

Visitors of the Florida Online Park Guide voted each month to determine a winner. Professional photographers then evaluated each month's winning pics to pick the top three winners.

North Tampa Arts League member Karin Best will be featured in the Spring 2011 Art Show at the Brooksville City Hall art gallery (201 Howell Avenue, Brooksville), in an exciting opportunity to display 15 of her original paintings to the community.

A Trinidad & Tobago native, Karin is heavily influenced by the landscapes and cultural lifestyle of her home, as well as scenes from other beautiful places around the world. She has had no formal training but continues to dazzle audiences with her art.

Last chance to hear orchestra's take on popular movies

Brooksville, FL -- This Saturday is your last chance to see some of the finest musical talents in the area perform their February concert series!

The Hernando Symphony Orchestra, now in its 27th season, will have its final performance of their "Out of This World" concert series featuring selections from some very popular movies on Feb. 26.

Some of the movies featured include Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, The Empire Strikes Back, and E.T.

The performance is at 7:30 p.m. at Hernando High School Performing Arts Center, located at 700 Bell Ave. in Brooksville.
