Hernando County Utilities hosts workshops

Hernando County, Florida-- While we're getting lots of rain as of recently, Hernando County encourages citizens to conserve water whenever possible. 

They say, "Micro-irrigation is an effective way to maintain or improve your landscape without using large amounts of water," and they are ready to teach you how to do it at your home.

A workshop hosted by the Hernando County Utilities Department on Monday, June 25 at 10 a.m. will discuss the benefits, the installation and use of micro-irrigation systems.

Fairgrounds need volunteers for Olde Tyme Celebration

Hernando County, FL -- The Hernando County Fairgrounds are in need of volunteers for the Olde Tyme Celebration on June 30.

The Celebration will be held at the Fairgrounds, located at 6436 Broad Street in Brooksville.

It starts at 10 a.m. and includes a pancake breakfast, water games, an ice cream sundae bar, vendors and more, all for $5 per carload of people. Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m..

Volunteers are needed throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Angela at 352-796-4552.

Goodwill in Oldsmar offers deeply discounted wedding dresses

Oldsmar, Florida -- Because of the rain last week, not as many brides-to-be poured into the Goodwill location in Brandon for the Wedding Gala of 2012, which offers wedding gowns at a discount. Because of that, they've added a sale day at the Goodwill Superstore in Oldsmar.

Doors open at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 23 at the Superstore, which is located at 3929 Tampa Road.

Learn to set-up and use a rain barrel, possible break on water-bill

Hernando County, Florida -- Hernando County residents could be eligible for credit on their water bills for attending "Contain the Rain - A Rain Barrel Workshop."

According to a press release, the workshop will be presented by John Korycki of the Hernando County Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program.

It will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 25, at the Hernando County Utilities Department, 21030 Cortez Blvd. in Brookesville.

Each participant will receive a completed rain barrel, along with instructions on its proper use and set-up.

Town Hall meeting, $7 million deficit for next fiscal year's budget

Hernando County, Florida-- County Administrator Leonard Sossamon will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, June 28 to discuss the next fiscal year's proposed budget, set to begin on October 1, 2012.

According to a recent release, Sossamon just began his role as Hernando County's Administrator last month, and after having worked with Budget Manager George Zoettlein and staff, the Board of County Commissioners is facing a $7 million deficit for the next year.

They are considering various options to balance the budget, and in turn, seek your input.
