Recommended investigation of Animal Services procedures after dog put to sleep

Hernando County, Florida-- On April 13, Animal Services Facility staff performed a euthanization of a dog named Zeus.

Just over a week later, Interim County Administrator Ron Pianta has announced his plan to recommend to the Board of County Commissioners that an investigation be conducted regarding the procedure. 

According to Hernando County Community Relations, serious questions and allegations have been raised as a result of the incident, and current policies and procedures involving euthanasia decisions.

The Hernando County Animal Services has announced their new Dog Walking/Cat Loving Program. The program is designed for volunteers who are interesting in working with animals while getting some exercise.

Brooksville – If you’re looking for a way to give back this holiday season, Hernando County Animal Services wants you to consider helping out their homeless pets.  

According to a press release, Hernando County Animal Services is in need of pet beds for homeless dogs staying at the shelter. A gift like a bed will continue to give back to the shelter for years, and has the potential to help thousands of pets. Placing a bed in every dog kennel would require 58 beds.

Bikers will pedal up to 100 miles to benefit local animals

The Suncoast Animal League of Palm Harbor is holding a Ride 4 the Animals on Oct. 29. 

You can choose from four distance routes that are 10, 31, 62 and 100 miles long.  The ride starts at Boyles Backyard grill just south of the League office at 1030 Pennsylvania Ave in Palm Harbor then heads north to Brooksville. 

There is a optional Ghost Tour available Friday, Oct. 28 in Brooksville and it's all part of a 5-day cycling "ghost tour" leaving from St. Augustine. 

Those who complete the 100 mile ride will get a commemorative event jersey and everyone will enjoy a pre-ride pancake breakfast from IHOP.
