Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

Hernando County, Florida-- Local law enforcement officers ask for your support as they participate in the annual Torch Run for Special Olympics on Monday, April 15.

Hernando County is one of 66 in Florida to participate in this event each year. Those 66 counties add up to more than 5,000 officers from over 300 agencies- all running and "carrying the torch" on a 1500 mile relay to benefit the athletes of the Special Olympics

'Mud Endeavor' hits Hernando March 23

Brooksville, Florida-- Three miles of hilly terrain, man-made obstacle courses, three water slides and TONS of mud- it's what locals can look forward to during the Mud Endeavor 5K obstacle course event in Brooksville on March 23.

Participants can head through with haste for a competitive time or take it slow for fun, but either way, organizers say the 15 obstacles will be physically and mentally challenging!

Gran Fondo National Championship Series comes to Dade City

Dade City, Florida -- Road cycling enthusiasts in the United States now have the opportunity to participate in races evoking the European tradition of scenic riding competitions with the Gran Fondo National Championship Series (GFNCS).

The GFNCS, launched and managed by former professional mountain bike rider Reuben Kline, consists of six unique and exciting routes in cities along the Eastern Seaboard and in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.

Brooksville, FL -- In a press release, the Hernando County Tourism Board has announced the Long Play Race, taking place on March 3, 2013. The race consists of a 5M, a half-marathon, 33 1/3 (LP), and a 66 2/3 (Double LP) Mile race.

It will take place at Lake Townsen Park, at 28011 Lake Lindsey Road in Nobleton, just outside of Brooksville.

Register this week for upcoming cheerleading class; prepare kids for school tryouts

Brooksville, FL -- Register your child this week for year-round cheerleading lessons provided by Hernando County Parks and Recreation. The next registration night will take place Thursday, the 31st at the Community Activity Center at 205 East Fort Dade Ave. in Brooksville.

The registration session is for classes that begin next week, on Tuesday, February 5th and run until March. The time of the class is determined by age.

Spring Hill, FL-- The Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department will be closing the Skate Park Ramp portion of Pioneer Park, also known as Stewy's Skate Park,  today, October 10 and tomorrow, October 11, for necessary maintenance activities.

Extreme Mudding Events announced in Hernando Co.

Brooksville, FL -- The Hernando County Tourism Bureau announced on Tuesday a series of sport mudding races that are coming to Hernando County.

The increasingly popular events vary, ranging from three to 12 mile events, timed or untimed events, and mild to extremely difficult events.

Mud events relate to overall fitness with a focus on mud, and athletes participate mostly for the camaraderie and personal satisfaction of meeting the challenges before them.
