Computer thief uses cat food as a cover...literally

Spring Hill, Florida -- Detectives arrested a man Monday who they say stole four laptop computers from a Spring Hill Walmart store on two occasions.

Hernando Sheriff's detectives say 35-year-old Jason Brady was seen on surveillance video twice on April 30 and twice on May 3 putting a laptop computer in a shopping cart and then putting a large bag of cat food on top of it. He would then leave the store without paying for either of them.

The total value of all four computers was over $3,000.

Brady was arrested and charged with four counts of retail theft.

Man arrested for fly swatter assault

Brooksville, Florida -- Hernando deputies say they've arrested a Brooksville man for attacking his roommate with a fly swatter.

According to the arrest report, Dale Barr was sitting a recliner on Saturday when 66-year-old Jack Henderson Coston Jr. approached him and began to slap him gently with the plastic end of the fly swatter.

Coston then allegedly turned the fly swatter around and struck Barr with the metal handle, leaving a small cut next to Barr's right eye.

Barr ran to his bedroom, where he awaited law enforcement.

Man arrested for violent haircut

Hernando, Florida -- An argument ended when a man began cutting the hair of the victim.

Investigators say 20-year-old Mark Thomas was in a verbal disagreement with the mother of his child. During the argument, Thomas allegedly grabbed the victim by her hair, and began to cut it off with a pair of scissors. 

According to reports, Thomas admitted to cutting the victim's hair, "out of spite." 

He was arrested on one count of domestic battery and taken to the Hernando County Jail.

Woman arrested for driving with person on hood

Brooksville, Florida-- Police arrested a Spring Hill woman for reckless driving after she was caught behind the wheel with a person riding on the hood of her car. 

According to a Brooksville Police Department report, officials stopped 28-year-old Crystal Barrett shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. 

Barrett's driving record revealed a history of habitual traffic violations, and that her license had been revoked, while a search of her car revealed her possession of Marijuana, says they report. 

Woman arrested for making false 911 calls

Brooksville, Florida -- A woman is facing charges for allegedly making false complaints in several calls to 911.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says 54-year-old Wendy Brock called the emergency phone number three times on Thursday.  The first time she claimed "large cats" were sneaking through her yard, then that ex-roommates were crawling in her back yard and harassing her, then finally that someone had left a hammer at her front door.

COPS: Victim makes up fake police officer incident

Spring Hill, Florida -- The victim in a third incident involving someone impersonating an officer was arrested Thursday after police discovered she made the whole thing up.

The woman, identified as Lindsay Walke, told police she was stopped at Waterfall Drive and Bern Lane by someone who made her perform field sobriety exercises, searched her vehicle and let her go with a "warning".

Man impersonating officer sought in Hernando County

Ridge Manor, Florida -- Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis is warning residents of a man masquerading as a law enforcement officer that has already conducted at least one stop in their jurisdiction.

The sheriff's office says on Feb. 2, between 9:45 and 10 p.m., the man -- in a white Crown Victoria with red and blue flashing lights on the dash and in the grill -- stopped a person in the area of Cortez Boulevard and McKethan Road.

Authorities say the car did not have a cage or any law enforcement markings on it.
